Hank and Marilyn Sensei with Yoshimitsu Yamada Shihan, 8th dan, of the New York Aikikai, at the Kagami Biraki Winter Practice, hosted by Aikido of Dallas. Thanks to Bob Mason Sensei for hosting a great seminar! Yamada Shihan was a direct student of the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba, for more than 10 years, and was one of the first Aikido teachers to establish a dojo in the United States, when he founded the New York Aikikai in 1964.

December 31, 2005:
Over the Christmas holidays, our dojo was pleased to host Seidokan aikido dojo, its instructors Phil Farmer and Robert Cheshire and their students from Steven F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. During the day, they utilized our dojo to videotape a syllabus of the Seidokan aikido kihon waza (or basic techniques) and during the evening they joined our class for a spirited workout, and exchange of techniques and ideas. It is always a pleasure to visit with Phil Sensei and his students, especially Casey Lopez, a Shodan from our dojo who "went off to college" at SFA and left us, but is now a top student in Phil Sensei's class. We have had several exchange visits with Seidokan recently, both at their dojo, and at ours, and it is always a pleasure to come together with them in the spirit of Aiki . This follows the philosophy of our dojo - of "being beyond style or affiliation," and that all are welcome to come and practice with us, and to grow in the spirit of the Art. (Pictures to come soon!)
